Much of my inspiration comes from the multifaceted aspects of travel. In particular to people, places and modes of communication. I value travel as a means of education and as a way to connect with humanity.
Over the years I have gravitated towards specific materials and symbolism that have become an integral part of my palette. Gauze has come to represent healing, a woven tea bag a unit of time. Newspapers become a way of acknowledging the ‘here & now’ in the context of history and time. A horizontal image (e.g. rope, stick, bailing twine) has come to represent continuity. It stems from the idea that the decisions we made yesterday effect today and that today’s decisions will effect tomorrow.
I appreciate the inherent beauty and wisdom that reveals itself in something that has experienced and endured the patina of time. |
